At VSTS, our Adult Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is designed to help you overcome substance use while preserving the structure of everyday life. We know that a lifetime of sobriety is achieved not just by temporary solutions, but by building a strong foundation of emotional stability, physical wellness, and practical coping skills
Unaddressed trauma can continue fueling addictive behaviors. By using evidence-based therapies (e.g., EMDR) and somatic practices, we help you process painful experiences, calm the body’s stress response, and reduce the risk of relapse over the long term. You’ll acquire techniques to manage cravings, interrupt negative thought patterns, and heal both mind and body, laying the groundwork for enduring recovery.
Large, impersonal groups may prevent you from receiving the individual attention you need. Capping each group at no more than 7 participants fosters a supportive community and a sense of belonging, which are crucial for sustained sobriety. In this close-knit environment, you can share experiences, develop trust, and practice new coping strategies with consistent feedback from peers and clinicians. This sense of accountability and connection can extend beyond the program’s duration.
Recovery often involves multiple stages, from initial stabilization to ongoing skill development. Having all resources under one roof—from outpatient counseling to medication-assisted treatment—keeps your progress consistent and cohesive. You can transition seamlessly between levels of care or incorporate specialized therapies (such as holistic methods or Peer Recovery Support) as you advance. This approach minimizes treatment gaps and ensures you receive the right level of support over time.
Research shows that trusted therapeutic relationships significantly improve long-term recovery outcomes. Our diverse staff includes EMDR-certified clinicians, English, Spanish and Farsi-speaking specialists, and Peer Recovery Support experts. Their collective expertise, alongside trauma-informed training, empowers you to address underlying issues, adapt coping strategies to your unique needs, and feel supported every step of the way.
Transitioning from inpatient or residential settings to outpatient services allows you to stay engaged in therapy while reinforcing the progress you’ve already made.
A flexible schedule lets you fulfill personal responsibilities while keeping a consistent focus on recovery.
If you’re committed to sustained sobriety but prefer to remain in your daily environment, Adult IOP offers targeted treatment without full-time facility living.
We emphasize tangible strategies—from somatic grounding to stress management—so you can continue building on these skills long after treatment ends.
We meet several times a week for 3–4 hours per session, accommodating typical work, school, or family schedules. This steady engagement ensures you’re consistently reinforcing recovery principles while maintaining everyday routines.
Small-group sessions foster peer support and mutual accountability—key elements of lasting sobriety. Individual counseling allows for in-depth exploration of personal challenges, trauma triggers, and goal-setting.
Acquire real-world techniques to navigate triggers, cravings, and high-risk situations—vital for preventing relapse and supporting ongoing growth. Connect with peers who share similar experiences, building a network that can extend beyond the program for mutual encouragement.
A lifetime of sobriety demands more than willpower alone—it requires practical strategies, emotional healing, and ongoing support. Our Adult IOP at VSTS delivers these critical components, guiding you toward the confidence and independence needed to maintain wellness and prevent relapse over the long run.
